(from Seawatch Newsletter June 2006)
CCA Florida would like to recognize and thank the Frank E. Duckwall Foundation for a $10,000 grant to CCA Florida in support of an important habitat restoration project in Boca Ciega Bay. The bay is part of the greater Tampa Bay Ecosystem. The Andrews Island project, which is under the direction of Tampa Bay Watch, includes the construction of a number of oyster bars that will stop erosion of the small mangrove island, support fish and wildlife species and contribute to improved water quality in the bay.
CCA volunteers will take part in the project providing boats for transporting oyster shell to the site and directing onshore volunteers in bagging the material. High school students and other citizens will also take part in the project, which has an important community and education component.
CCA Florida will contribute the entire grant to Tampa Bay Watch and is continuing to seek additional matching funds for the Andrews Island Project and other habitat restoration efforts.
